How long does each course take?
Practical Outcomes delivers ‘competency based’ training.
Competency-based training and completion is an approach to vocational education and training that places emphasis on what a person can do in the workplace as a result of completing a program of training.
Competency based training programs are comprised of competency standards set by the industry that each student is assessed against to ensure all the outcomes required have been achieved.
Progression through a competency based training program is determined by the student demonstrating that they have met the competency standards through the training program and related work, not by time spent in training. This way, students may be able to complete a program of study much faster.
As a guide our courses take approximately the following length of time:
CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care – 12 months
CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care – 12 months
CHC50221 Diploma of School Age Education and Care – 16 months

What is a Unique Student Identifier (USI)?
The Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a number which will contain all of a student’s qualifications and results achieved through nationally recognised training from 1 January 2015. Students will have access to their USI account from 2016.
How do I apply for a USI? You can either apply directly on the USI website, usi.gov.au and select the ‘Create a USI link’ or you can provide Practical Outcomes permission to apply for this on your behalf during your enrolment process.
What is a Victorian Student Number (VSN)?
The Victorian Government has legislated and implemented a Victorian Student Number (VSN) for students in Victoria.
The VSN is a student identification number that has been assigned by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to all students in government and non-government schools, and to students below the age of 25 undertaking Vocational Education and Training with a TAFE, RTO or Adult and Community Education (ACE) provider (referred to collectively as VET Providers).
TheVictorian Curriculum and Assessment Authory (VCAA) is the business manager of the VSN and associated Victorian Student Register (VSR). We work closely with educational providers to ensure that there is a unique identity assigned to each individual. Where there is a misalignment with the data held on the system the VCAA will endeavour to resolve the identity of the individual before a VSN is issued.
The VSN provides the capability to accurately detect patterns of student movement through, and departure from, the Victorian education and training system. It will greatly improve the collection and analysis of timely and accurate data about education in Victoria.
