Choosing a course

Finishing high school is both an exciting and challenging time in your time. You’ve just closed one chapter and are on your way to beginning the journey into the ‘real world’ and adulthood. Many people expect you to know exactly what you want to do next in your life, but the truth is, very few 16-18-year-olds have any clue about what they want to do as a career.

So what can you do when you have no idea what you want to do? Aside from taking a gap year, which many young people can’t afford to do financially, building a career in early childhood can be an excellent option Even, if you are not sure about what to study, you can study and work in the child care industry as an interim career.

Choosing your career

Some people know exactly what they want to study and precisely where they want their career to be in five years. If you are not one of these people, then you will need to consider the available options carefully.

You can start by considering the industry you might like to see your career grow in. If education interests you, a Practical Outcomes course is an ideal starting point. We offer a wide range of child care courses ranging from Certificate III and IV through to Advanced Diplomas. Our courses range in duration from 11 months to 18 months full time, so you can be working in no time.

In fact, with ACECQA’s ‘actively working towards’ provision, once you enrol and start your course in child care you can begin to work and therefore earn while you learn.

Child care as an interim career

If you have no clue what you would like to pursue a career in, then choosing a course in early childhood education is a fantastic interim career option. Complete the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education (CHC30113) in less than one year and you can earn around $39,324 to $57,668 a child care worker in Melbourne (Payscale).

We will also assist you in finding a placement at a child care centre to assist with the practical element of your education.

Whether you’re looking for a career for the long term or just for now, the child care industry is a fun way to find flexible, fulfilling work.
