More than 15 graduates of the Practical Outcomes’ Diploma of School Age Education and Care looked under the hood of what it means to be a successful educator at Camp Australia at a careers opportunity session held during December.
Camp Australia approached Kylie Jackson, Placement Coordinator with Practical Outcomes to co-host the session to bring together career-ready outside of school hours care (OSHC) graduates to identify potential new recruits.
“We have built fantastic relationships with industry over the years, and this is one way we can help our students with placements, and also to identify job opportunities,” says Ms Jackson.
As the fastest growing OSHC in the country, Camp Australia, delivers programs that nurture and support children’s development. Dean Edwards, Recruitment Associate at Camp Australia said that the session enabled him to assess the attendees for the things that don’t translate over the phone such as communication with others and teamwork.
“We had a great opportunity to meet with and find out a little bit more about candidates interested in joining Camp Australia,” Mr Edwards said. “Essentially we were looking for a passion for and love of working with children, with a focus on safety, in potential recruits.”
“Nine of those who attended the session will be pursued for employment with Camp Australia subject to the successful completion of their application processes.”
Camp Australia approached Practical Outcomes because its graduates are known for having the skills and confidence that make successful before and after school care leaders! It’s that industry-current, hands-on training that really makes Practical Outcomes graduates highly sought-after in the OSHC industry.
The Diploma provides students with a range of career outcomes in an industry which is growing because of the increasing participation of parents in the workforce.
Possible career pathways open to graduates on completion are:
- Outside school hours care coordinator
- Outside school hours care educator
- Program leader
- Service manager
- Team leader
- Vacation care coordinator
The 13 month Diploma of School Age Education and Care can also be a pathway from Early Childhood Education and Care, for those who are looking to work with older children. It can also provide a pathway to the Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management or potentially to a Bachelor of Education.
