Study shows VET graduates are employed faster and earn higher wages
When it comes to earning more and readily gaining employment, VET training (vocational education and training) graduates are doing better than their university peers, according to recent research.
The study ‘Perceptions are not reality’ by not-for-profit Skilling Australia found that those who had completed VET courses found a job faster than university graduates. In addition, VET students are earning a higher starting salary.

The study ‘Perceptions are not reality’ by not-for-profit Skilling Australia found that those who had completed VET courses found a job faster than university graduates. In addition, VET students are earning a higher starting salary.
The study’s results push back against the perception of university as the ultimate way into a meaningful career.
“Unfortunately, vocational study has a history of being seen as less respectable than attending university. This must change,” said Skilling Australia Foundation chief executive Nicholas Wyman.
Here are just a few of the key findings about the success of VET graduates in the report:

Training within an apprenticeship saw the figures for employment after graduation reach up to 92 per cent! This is an indicator that hands-on workplace experience can be an essential ingredient when it comes to creating a great career.
VET training for the best career prospects
The VET sector currently provides training for nine out of ten occupations tipped to have the greatest growth in new jobs over the next five years, including child care professionals. The number of workers in the child care industry has grown very strongly over the past 5 years and this is set to continue.
Currently employing around 142,000 people, the child care sector is projected to have around 168,000 job openings by 2022!
