You’re enrolled, you’re excited and it’s all happening! Now it’s time to make a plan of how you’re going to stay on track and achieve your goals. These study survival tips will make sure you do just that.
The term ‘study survival’ is probably a bit dramatic — these tips will make studying easier and more productive so that you’re set up to succeed.
- Be organised
Make sure you have pens, books and all the things you need to study well.
- Avoid distractions
Phones and social media are a big one. These are incredibly distracting. Consider switching off for periods of time.
- Take breaks
Constant study isn’t good for anyone. If you’re mind is starting to wander or you find yourself reading the same line over and over, take a break.
- Look after yourself
Eat well, get plenty of sleep and take care of your health — this is essential.
- Find what works for you
Just because everyone else seems to study in the evening, it doesn’t mean that is going to work for you. Trial and error — maybe morning study will be your thing.
- Don’t procrastinate
Sometimes we can get so set on completing a task but it just isn’t happening so we procrastinate by doing less productive things. Just move on to another task and come back to it later. Far more productive.
- Get a routine in place
Knowing in advance when you’re going to study will help you maintain a healthy balance between your various commitments and allow time for everything (including relaxing).
- Remember your goals
If studying feels a little overwhelming at times, revisit your scheduling and remember why you’re doing this. It will help you stay on track if you focus on your goals.
- Stay calm
Don’t quietly stress and let things build up. Stay calm and consider moving on to tip number 12…
