Wednesday, September 17, 2025

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care now has updated entry requirements, making it more accessible for aspiring educators than ever. The course changes mean that more people with hands-on experience or alternative qualifications can enrol and take the next step in their careers in the early childhood education sector.

To reflect these changes, the qualification code has also been updated from CHC50121 to CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.  The course content itself remains the same, however these new entry pathways mean more educators can benefit from this nationally recognised qualification and open doors to leadership opportunities in the sector.

So, what does this mean for you? Let’s break it down.

Same course, new accessibility

The great news is that the course content of the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care remains the same, so you will still gain the same valuable knowledge and skills that employers are looking for. This is designed to prepare you to lead teams, support children’s development, and take on more responsibility within the sector.

The key change is in the entry requirements, which have been expanded to make the Diploma more accessible to a wider range of educators.

Updated entry requirements for CHC50125

Previously, the only pathway into the Diploma was to hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113 or CHC30121). With the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, the options are broader. Now, you can enrol if you meet one of the following requirements:

  • Hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113 or CHC30121); OR
  • Hold an Australian Certificate III in Children’s Services AND demonstrate at least 12 months of cumulative employment (full-time equivalent) within the last five years in a regulated education and care service in Australia, supported by verifiable evidence; OR
  • Hold the CHCSS00147 Entry into Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care skill set.

These changes ensure that experienced educators who may have followed a different training pathway still have the opportunity to progress to the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

The positive impact of the course change for the early childhood education sector

By expanding entry pathways, the new qualification acknowledges the valuable experience that many educators already bring to the sector. The diploma is now more inclusive and flexible, opening doors for those who have been working in education and care but may not have held the exact previous qualification code.

For aspiring leaders in the sector, the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care provides the chance to upskill, strengthen your career prospects, and contribute even more to the wellbeing and development of children.
