A job that’s rewarding, meaningful and… hilarious?! That’s a career in early childhood.
Children are well known for their honesty and curiosity and these make for a very amusing combination at times. Work should always have an element of light-heartedness and you get barrels of it in a child care role.
Over the years our trainers and students have shared many funny tales from their time working with children through their career in early childhood. Here are just a few to share with you…
Roomies?
One of our fantastic trainers was flattered when a child in her care decided that they would move in with her. “They said that when they grow up they will live with me and help pay the rent!”
Not convinced
Often we find ourselves saying some silly things to explain things to children. For example, telling children that a spider is more scared of them than they are of the spider. One of our students came across a child who didn’t accept this explanation, saying: “If the spider is also scared of me, then why is she crawling on me?!” Hmm, good point!
Honesty is the best policy
In some child care situations, you will have siblings to care for. This can be a fun dynamic to witness, especially because we know that children like to tell it how it is. One young girl didn’t hold back about her little brother: “My baby brother is always stinky!”
A career that makes you smile
The funny stories are a regular occurrence in child care. There’s something magical about a job that allows you contribute to shaping the lives of young children and gives you so much joy back.
